About Us
A register of Chinese formulas and materials
Chinese incense makers kept registers. The incense books of the Song dynasty listed each blend by name, with its materials and how it was made. We work the same way: every formula we make is an entry, with its name, its materials, its method, where it comes from and one short story.
Blended incense, worn on the wrist
Our first volume is scent. Hexiang, 合香, means blended incense: plant materials ground to powder, blended with a few accords to a formula, shaped into beads by hand and dried for at least twenty days, then strung as a bracelet. Polished stone will follow.
What we write down
The materials, in plain words. Where a material is an accord, we say so: our agarwood and ambergris are accords, and nothing we use comes from an animal.
We don't write what a scent will do for your body or your luck. We write what it smells like, what it is made of and where it comes from.
The name
A meridian is a line that joins places on a map. 合脈 means lines brought together. 方物 is an old word for the things a region is known for making. The company is new. The formulas are not.
